spent 2 hrs to complete the day's newspaper reading session..yah n im ovewhelmed by articles after articles covering issues relating to the above. not only does singapore face the problem of talent shortage, other developed countries such as HK n developing ones such as China r facing similar problem as well..den there are articles in the forums reflecting on elitism. Y? in response to the articles published last week after a survey conducted by ST on the contituents of an elitists etc.
tell me how not to be worried if ya arent one of the top notch performers? yes!life hasnt been so stressful compared to the less developed years..how not to fret when u aint considered a talent? wad comprises a 'talent'? one with good grades?obviously dats part n parcel of the criteria..den scholar?all these classifications will only add more to stress, children being more competitive, selfish?scheming?i dunno...im refusing to think of wad the future will be like? 'stay competitive', 'work on the education system', ' welcoming foreign talent', ' embracing the singapore's system'. Yes i agree tt we haf n r gg to excel in this area to be a successful nation. n im one of them who has been brought up in this system where meritocracy is key. born in an ave. income family, humble background with parents drawing ave. salary, life can be classified as satisfactory..at least ive gt a chance to enjoy singapore's world class education.together with my sis we finally made it and i truly believe tt my ygest sis will make her mark as well..mb not in our fields but her own where her interests lie.
my parents are taking pride in us n we can really sense it. daddy is already making plans to apply for leave on july 24th, convocation day n the phototaking session.everyone is excited to see me in my gown.finally after so many years of investment, they are gg to see their ROI(return of investment) real soon..mummy? shes planning to shop for new clothes for the shoot..haha..once in a lifetime..
i aint a talent, a scholar not even considering myself as an elite..jus another soul propelled n drifted in this system which meritocracy ruled. can sense the ellitism growing in me..wondering when it began to set itself on me..were making a joke out of it over dinner at celede dat day..bt us mixing with victorians...haha..(referring to our council gang..) not true ive gt close frans in uni whu aint frm vj as well...so its nt a vj thing afterall
i cant blame the system neither can i blame the society..its the influence, its me whu has allowed myself to succumb to such influence..yes its the thinking tt ive developed..shunning visits to hawker centers unless im buying PACKED meals for my family else u wun find me appearing any where near one..food court still can take it at least i dun find old men drinkin n smoking in them..pollute my air..hating the sight of them..lazing around looking here n dere when peeps walk pass..cant dey go find sthg to do? n dun tok bt geylang i tell u!angry even more disgusted!
yes mum reminded me dat i grow up in neighbourhood when i commented tt i dun welcome the idea of gg shopping st toa payoh hub ang mo kio hub etc..yes all these wadever wadever hub dun entice me..though i used to frequent them when i was yger after paying visits to granny's place..okie mum saes im looking down on these places n im definitely not afraid to say tt yah to a certain extent. she told me tt i can gt cheaper wrking clothes frm dunno where..but i dun seem to care..i mean considering the transport n stuff...forget it..oh well its the brand conscious me again..tink i went overboard ytd..mums always doubting my ability. mb shes true..was trying to explain to her the rationale of aim high hit high or even higher...guess shes more or less accepting it. so we shall wait n see
toking bt being exclusive..yes i certainly wan tt!yearn for it i can tell u! its the selfish nature 'nurtured' by this good system of ours?once everything seems 'so affordable' we will want more things to be exclusive? toking bt gym memberships, country club menberships, krisflyer memberships..all the diff types of memberships? tell me more man!n i surely want to be one of those in these categories! was at the publi pool ytd..firstly, it's dirty, next hafta 'share' space with the rest of the users, cant have the freedom to continue swimming my laps as the kids r ard..hafta 'be gracious' n stop several times when another swimmer approaches 'my' lane..i simply cant stand these 'hafta, gotta...' pissed is wad i blurted out to mei. n i mus sae tt im irritated with the word 'share'. the noise level from the kids,though i mus sae dey aint really tt noisy, was unacceptable frm my point of view..toking bt kids?children?forget it..tgt with the stress of bringing them up frm infants, putting them thru this stressful system n competitiveness in life is cfm not wad i wan.tink dey will be driven to death with my elitist mentality..n we wun forego the corporate level to start a family in the near future, i assure
